IMPORTANCE OF CARBOHYDRATES; burning fat

Posted in NUTRITION with tags , , , , on November 8, 2009 by amerthehammerfitness

fast-food-obesity-big CARBOHYDRATES

Carbohydrates get broken down into their simplest form eventually, which is glucose(sugar).  It does not matter whether you get the carbs through bread, pasta, strawberries, they will be broken down to into glucose.  Glucose provides the fuel for you muscles and your brain, which is why carbohydrates are very important, and your body is at extreme risk on a low carb diet.

Carbs are very important for anybody performing high intensity activitiy for long periods of time because your body must be re-fueled with energy. If you are looking to burn fat, keep your blood sugar levels even and consistent(keep carb intake consistent)

If you are able to keep you carb intake consistent; your body will remain at a fat-burning state.  If you eat carbs which raise blood sugar levels quickly, they will be followed be a quick down time which will cause you to feel tired.  If you consume carbs that raise your blood sugar levels at a moderate rate, then you will burn fat for longer periods of time and feel more energetic throughout your workouts and throughout the day.

If you try going on a no-carb diet(which I have done)…your body will feel really lazy and tired ALWAYS, as well your brain will not function at a normal state; you will feel very slow and maybe a bit less smarter!

The following should form the majority of the carbs throughout your daily intake within moderation

Vegetables of all kinds
Oatmeal
Whole grain breads
Whole grain cereals
Brown rice
Potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Yams
Barley
Rye
Lentils

Due to popular demand, I will be posting recipe ideas which are healthy and taste great.  I notice with many of my clients they find it hard to eat chicken breast with broccoli all day.  Why should you anyways, it’s not like you are dieting for a bodybuilding competition.  Please keep in mind that the portion sizes will vary from person to person depending on your body size, goals, and calorie intake.

STARBUCKS; A HEALTHY CHOICE?

Posted in NUTRITION with tags , , , on September 29, 2009 by amerthehammerfitness

starbucks1Many people for some strange reason visit Starbucks on a regular basis; im hoping for the taste and nothing else…

I bet you wont want to go back after this.  Did you know a venti mocha with whole milk and whipped cream, contains approximately 510 calories.  If you are one of these coffee drinkers, way to start off your morning.  Also did you know that a low-fat muffin at Starbucks contains over 400 calories? So if you decided to have these two for a meal or snack, you are almost consuming 1000 calories in a single meal, with no real nutritional benefits!

Next time you go to Starbucks, try the 16oz non-fat cappuccino which contains 1/4 of the calories…only 110 calories. Their are always healthier choices when eating out, but how would you ever know? Starbucks is not going to post the calories on the menu…

Just because something is labeled as low-fat, does that mean it is also low in calories?NO…It could be low in trans fats, saturated fats, they don’t state what type of fat it is low in, therefore once again the infamous “low-fat” slogan can be just a big fraud! Read more »

k-fed-fatVictoria Prince, the girlfriend of K-fed (Kevin Federline) doing some grocery shopping in LA…could this be the reason we now call him K-FAT?  Look closely at the bag and you will see what it is, Frozen Pizza which she is trying to hide from the camera!
